📢 Hey there 👋
You’ve likely ended up here having been sent an invite to be scouted on OpenScout by a Scout who would like to scout your company!
You may not yet know what OpenScout is, so we’ve created this quick start guide. We hope that this provides you with a little bit of background as to what OpenScout is and to show you why being scouted on OpenScout is a great thing. 🙌
🕵️♀️ What is OpenScout?
OpenScout is a “scout-as-a-service” platform that acts as a two-sided marketplace, allowing scouts to share deals with investors.
Whilst typical scout programs permit scouts to do this for one VC, OpenScout opens up an entire marketplace, both providing scouts a way to share their awesome dealflow with many different investors and providing investors with dealflow they otherwise may not encounter.
👀 What can investors see about my company?
Investors on OpenScout will be able to see all the information you have provided regarding your company e.g. Vertical, Stage, Target raise, Location, Team info, etc.
If an investor is interested in your startup based off the information they can see, they can download your pitch deck and request an introduction, which will be immediately facilitated by OpenScout, on behalf of your Scout.
🤝 What’s in it for me?
Being scouted on OpenScout means your startup will be seen by all the investors that follow your scouts’s profile, helping you get exposure to, and hopefully inbound interest from, hundreds of investors.
🧐 All of this sounds great. What’s the catch?
There is zero upfront cost to you to be on OpenScout!
On every successful investor referral made via OpenScout (i.e. an investor invests in your round after seeing your raise on OpenScout), we will be charging your company a 5% flat referral fee.
Half of this fee will be going to the scout who helped get your company onto OpenScout.
P.S. This fee will be capped at £30k (assuming you raise >£600k+ through OpenScout), so that all charges stay within reason.
⚠️ To repeat, there will never be any up front fee for founders that are scouted, and if you never receive any investment from investors on the platform, you’ll never pay a fee of any kind.
📈 We’ll soon be opening up the ability for both Landscape and the scout to re-invest the success fee into your company, at your discretion. This will mean both the scout and Landscape have skin-in-the-game for your continued success moving forward.
To give you an idea of how the new fee model will work, here are a few examples:
1️⃣ You raise £100k from angels via OpenScout. Landscape will invoice you for £100k * 5% = £5000 in referral fee (plus VAT where applicable), half of which goes to the Scout.
2️⃣ You raise £800k from angels and VCs via OpenScout. Landscape will invoice you £30k (plus VAT where applicable) as we have a cap. Half of the fee as usual goes to the Scout.
3️⃣ You don't end up raising anything from angels or VCs via OpenScout. In this scenario, there is no fee charged to you 👍
